Claria for clinicians
A five-week program combining hypnosis and CBT that teaches patients 12 skills for anxiety, depression and stress, on their own or between sessions.

What is Claria?
Good mental health isn't about getting rid of uncomfortable feelings. It's about having the skills to handle them well.
Over five weeks, patients work through 12 skills, about 15 minutes a day.
When to recommend it
- Between therapy sessions, so patients keep practising the skills you work on together
- As a support tool you recommend alongside their usual care
- After therapy ends, as a top-up whenever they need it or before a particular challenge

Created by Dr. Michael Yapko
Dr. Yapko is an award-winning clinical psychologist known for advancing clinical hypnosis. He has written 16 books and taught clinicians in more than 30 countries. He created Claria with Mindset Health.
“People want to feel better in their lives but typically, they either don't know what to do to accomplish that or more often, how to do it. I routinely tell clients that it's not that there's something wrong with you, but instead it's how you're going about it.”

The evidence behind the approach
Research on hypnosis in general, not on Claria specifically. Claria draws on Dr. Yapko's clinical work, including Breaking the Patterns of Depression and Treating Depression with Hypnosis.
Adding hypnosis to CBT improved outcomes compared with CBT alone, across 18 studies.
Kirsch, Montgomery & Sapirstein (1995), Journal of Consulting and Clinical PsychologyHypnosis reduced anxiety more than control conditions across 17 trials, and the benefit lasted.
Valentine, Milling, Clark & Moriarty (2019), International Journal of Clinical and Experimental HypnosisHypnosis reduced symptoms of depression about as much as other established psychological treatments.
